Assessment #2 Post

The Blog I have set up is entitled pulp fiction as it is just that. My post have been about music such as afi and the bouncing souls and film such as 300 Spiderman 3 and transformers. To improve the look of my page I have added a picture to the heading which I think help the blog look more interesting.

Flickr I have also added pictures of musicans but I have also added pictures of myself living the uni social life which often gets in the way. I have added the pictures of the musicans to my flickr to keep with the theme of my blog. Flickr

Aesthetics of web pages

Aesthetics of web pages relates to the appearence of a web page. Weather the colours, fonts, Images, layout and background come together to create a harmonious image that we feel comfortable to view or uncomfortable to view depending on the intent of the creater. Why I found this site not aesthetically pleasing
The wall paper are is ridiculous its a small image bad to start with then tiled across the background. The Fonts in the title are poor graphic predating even the binary code.

A website I do like is Apple Trailers The page is mordern slick and is well set out. The content is interesting and the way it changes featured movies when the page is refeshed I quite enjoy

RSS and XML

RSS(Really Simple Syndication)- is a web feed format used in frequently updated material such as blogs, news feeds and podcasts. Users of RSS use RSS readers to view the RSS feeds. The RSS format is specified in XML.

XML(Extensible Markup Language)- is a general purpose markup language(a markup language combines text and extra information about the text e.g. info about the texts structure or presentation intermingled with the primary text). Its primary purpose is to facilitate the sharing of data across different information systems, particularly the internet.

Before today I had never heard of RSS feeds, but now I can see how these are useful and may one day put the humble news paper out of business. I selected to use Google reader as it was easy to opperated and worked first time(thanks blogger). I have subscribed to some other rss feeds and looks it may become a part of the daily internet rutine. wikipedia rss and wikipedia xml

Assessment Task #1

The blog I have set up realates not to my a I use a alias but mainly around the two things that interest me most music and film. I have put some infomation about some of my favourite bands and how they got started. I put links to film clips of the bands so people can have a taste of the bands they read about. I use many pictures to give the blog a pleasing asthetic quality instead of looking like a text book.

Flickr- my flikr contains some pictures I took with my girlfriend on valintine's day and contains other photos of animals and some drawings by my favourite comic book artist

Delicious- the webs sites I have choosen for my delicious account I find interesting and use on a regular basis, not being a heavy use of the internet in todays world I assume the popularity of these sites would increase with the younger heavy web users

The blog is fun and a useful tool however I found it hard to jump on the delicious and flickr band wagon. Yours truly Marsellous

I went to see this film the other week and have decided to call it the coolest film since the last cool film. 300 is symbolic for the western world and its war on terrorism or "the middle east". However the film is still worth seen if you enjoy epic battle scenes of carnage and destruction then this is for you.

The Bouncing Souls

The Bouncing Souls are a punk rock band, formed in 1987. They are originally from New Brunswick, New Jersey. By time of their acknowledgement by the national punk scene, they had reignited a "pogo" element to New Jersey punk rock by playing fast light-hearted songs, a model followed by various other local bands (e.g. Blanks 77 and the Bristles). In the early stages of their career, they played a hybrid of punk, funk, metal, and just about anything else they felt like including. They were known for their energetic live shows, albeit with an amateurish element on their recordings at that stage.

The Bouncing Souls are one of the best selling and longest lived of the punk bands from New Jersey, following the legacy of previously successful punk bands Adrenalin OD and the Misfits.

AFI yet another very brief history

While still in high school in Ukiah, California, Davey Havok (vocals), Mark Stopholese (guitar) and Vic Chalker (bass) formed an outfit called AFI in 1991. It is a frequent miconception that the initials AFI stood for "Asking for It" or "Anthems for Insubordinates", however these were the band's mailing address and the band's publishing company, respectively. "Abuncha Fuckin' Idiots" was used as a joke during its initial years. It is unclear, however, when it became, officially, "A Fire Inside". At the time, the band did not know how to play any instruments. Stopholese suggested his friend Adam Carson, who had a drum kit, join.[1] Stopholese learned guitar, Chalker learned bass, and AFI made their first EP in recording with the split-EP Dork (1993) with the now defunct Loose Change, which included future AFI guitarist Jade Puget. Chalker was soon replaced by Geoff Kresge.

AFI disbanded when its members attended different colleges, including UC Berkeley. Kresge moved to New York where he played with Blanks 77. After reuniting to perform a live show, the other members decided to drop out of college to play full-time with AFI. Between 1993 and 1995 they released several vinyl EPs (Behind the Times; Eddie Picnic's All Wet; Fly in the Ointment; This Is Berkeley, Not West Bay; AFI/Heckle; Bombing the Bay) independently. Their first full-length, Answer That and Stay Fashionable was released in 1995. Very Proud of Ya followed the next year.

After several tours in support of the album "Answer That and Stay Fashionable" Kresge decided to leave the group. His spot was filled by Hunter for the remaining Very Proud of Ya tour dates. Burgan went on to help AFI record Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes and was invited to become the full-time bassist. Black Sails in the Sunset introduced AFI fans to a much darker sound. The Clash- A very brief history

The Clash were an English punk rock band who were active from 1976 to 1986. They were one of the most successful and iconic bands from the original wave of punk rock in the late 1970s, and went on to incorporate punk with reggae, rockabilly, dance, jazz, ska, and eventually many other music styles into their repertoire. The Clash were legendary for their intense stage performances.

The Clash stood apart from their punk peers with their skilled musicianship and the passionate, left-wing political idealism in the lyrics of frontmen Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. This contrasted sharply with the nihilism of the Sex Pistols and the three-chord simplicity of the Ramones. Although the Clash were a major success in the UK from the release of their first album in 1977, they did not become popular in the US until 1980.

Their third album, the late 1979 release London Calling is an influential album in the history of rock music; it was released in the US in January 1980, and a decade later Rolling Stone magazine declared it the best album of the 1980s. Rolling Stone also placed it at #8 on their list in 2003 of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The Clash's attitude and style, as much as their music, strongly influenced many other bands from the 1980s. In 2003 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked The Clash[1] #30 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[2] Epic Records dubbed them "The Only Band That Matters"

The Misfits

The Misfits are a Punk rock band formed in 1977 and led by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig (born Glenn Anzalone) and later, bassist Jerry Only (born Gerald Caiafa). They were highly influential on the genres of heavy metal, punk rock and rock music in general. Though they ceased recording and performing in 1983, a new version of the band (led by Only and without founder and former frontman Danzig) began operations in 1995 (see below).

The early Misfits were often quite melodic, featuring Danzig's versatile singing, which had a style rooted in Italian tenors such as Mario Lanza and in 1950s doo-wop. Musically, the band has also displayed some rockabilly influences (but not as much as psychobilly bands). Early Misfits songs tended to have catchy, sing-along choruses, initially backed by Danzig's distorted keyboard accompaniments (circa 1977), and later by willfully crude guitar-rock. The band began as a largely untrained ensemble. After several lineup changes and increasing international acclaim, Danzig disbanded the original Misfits in 1983.

The band often wore ghoulish makeup when performing, and bassist Jerry Only reputedly invented a hairstyle called the devilock, with the bangs coming to a point in front of the nose or chin, a style still worn by fans today and contributed to the foundation of Horror Punk.

When the band originally reformed, it featured Michale Graves on vocals, Jerry Only on bass, Dr. Chud on drums, and Jerry's brother Doyle on guitar. Doyle is currently estranged from the group and is working with a new group named Gorgeous Frankenstein, which formed in 2005. Doyle recently reunited with Glenn Danzig's band Danzig to perform special sets of Misfits songs on Danzig's Blackest of the Black 2005 and 2006 tour.

A third, "touring" incarnation of the band, without original singer Danzig, is presently led by the only other "constant" original member, bassist Jerry Only. Members of the touring group have included Marky Ramone (of the Ramones), and both drummer ROBO (who was a member of the original band), and guitarist Dez Cadena of Black Flag fame.
